Campus Bio-Medico MedTech: programme, test, fees and ranking

Medicine and Surgery – MedTech is the Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma's second English-taught medical degree: the same six-year degree that qualifies you as a doctor, with mathematics, physics, computing and biomedical engineering built into it. It shares one admission test with UCBM's Medicine and Surgery but has its own places and ranking. Everything below was read on unicampus.it on 15 October 2026.

The programme

What MedTech is at Campus Bio-Medico

Medicine and Surgery 'MedTech' is a single-cycle Master's degree in class LM-41, six years and 360 credits over 12 semesters, taught entirely in English. It is one degree: it qualifies you as a doctor and gives full access to residency schools, exactly like UCBM's other English-taught Medicine and Surgery degree.

What changes is the scientific base. UCBM's Italian course page describes doctors trained in the clinical path and also in engineering (mathematics, chemistry, physics, data analysis and computing) and methods (modelling, problem solving, optimisation), with technical fields such as artificial intelligence, big data, biosignals, tissue engineering, biomaterials and bioprinting, nanotechnologies, electronics, surgical robotics and virtual reality. Some classes are shared with Engineering students.

A second degree is possible but optional: an additional path of 30 credits taught within UCBM's degree in Biomedical Engineering, after which, UCBM's English page says, students are eligible to receive a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering. The course is directed by Professor Giovanni Di Pino.

Study plan

The study plan (piano di studi), year by year

The first two years build the science and engineering base alongside anatomy, physiology and biochemistry; clinical subjects start in the third year, each paired with the technology used in it.

MedTech: exams by year, 2026-27 cohort (credits in brackets)

YearExams
1Biology (9); Chemistry (7); General Physics (12); Mathematics (10); Fundamentals of Computer Science (5); Medical Humanities I (4); Biophysics (4); Body Structural Organization (8); English Language (4)
2Probability and Statistics (6); Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology (12); Biochemistry (12); Organs Anatomy and Physiology (12); Medical Humanities II (3); Pharmacology and Medical Genetics (6)
3Medical Humanities III (3); Pathology, Immunology and Microbiology (17); Signal and Imaging Processing (12); Cardiac Diseases (14); Respiratory Diseases (9)

On top of the 35 exams come 8 credits of elective traineeship, 8 of elective activities and 8 for the thesis, 360 in all. The plan also marks six courses as optional: Physiological Models, Electronics, Measurements, Sensors and Instrumentation, Medical Device: Design, Regulation, Sustainability and Innovation, Artificial Organs and Healthcare Management, 30 credits together.

MedTech or Medicine?

How MedTech differs from UCBM's Medicine and Surgery

Both are English-taught LM-41 degrees at UCBM with the same test, the same fees and the same qualification. The difference is in the plan and the places:

  • MedTech starts with Mathematics, General Physics and Computer Science and adds Probability and Statistics, Signal and Imaging Processing, Biomechatronics and AI and Data Mining; Medicine and Surgery starts with a 20-credit Propaedeutics of Medicine and teaches Italian language in its first two years, with no mathematics or engineering courses.
  • MedTech offers an optional Bachelor's in Biomedical Engineering for 30 extra credits; Medicine and Surgery does not.
  • Places 2026/27: MedTech 68 EU + 12 non-EU; Medicine and Surgery 84 EU + 36 non-EU.
  • Each has its own ranking. You can compete for one or both, but only by registering separately for each, with its own fee.

Admission test

The admission test (shared with Medicine and Surgery)

MedTech has no test of its own. The same written test admits to both English-taught degrees: 60 multiple-choice questions with five options, 20 Biology, 20 Chemistry and 20 Physics, in 100 minutes, entirely in English and without a calculator. A correct answer scores 1, a wrong one −0.2 and a blank 0, out of 60, and you need at least 12 to be ranked.

For 2026/27, registration opened on 29 October 2025 and closed at 13:00 on 6 February 2026, at €170 per course, and the test was held in Rome on 19 February 2026. English at B2 had to be certified by one of the certificates the call lists. Non-EU citizens resident abroad sat a separate online test with remote monitoring on 6 February 2026. UCBM had not published the 2027/28 call by 15 October 2026; this page will be updated when it does.

Graduatoria

The MedTech ranking (graduatoria) and scrolling (scorrimenti)

MedTech is ranked on its own list. In 2026/27 the provisional ranking (D.R. 63/2026) had 167 rows, and the 68th and last winner scored 42.8/60. The definitive ranking (D.R. 269/2026) had 87 rows, averaging 35.49/60. Places left free were then offered down that list in notices normally published on Tuesdays and Fridays; the 18th, on 3–4 September 2026, reached position 87 at 14.4/60, and UCBM declared the scrolling closed on 4 September.

So in 2026/27 every eligible candidate on MedTech's definitive list was offered a place. For the places still free, UCBM ran a further test in Rome on 16 October 2026, with its ranking due by 20 October. One year's ranking does not predict the next: it depends on how many people register for MedTech.

Retta

What MedTech costs (retta)

MedTech costs the same as UCBM's English-taught Medicine and Surgery: €19,000 for the first year in 2026/27, plus the €140 Lazio regional tax, in three instalments. The Italian-taught Medicina e Chirurgia costs €15,500.

MedTech: first-year fees, 2026/27

InstalmentAmountWhen
First€8,000 + €140 regional taxAt enrolment
Second€5,500By 25 January 2027 (the fee regulation says 23 January)
Third€5,500By 12 April 2027 (the fee regulation says 10 April)
Total€19,000 + €140Subject to inflationary increases in later years

Where the call and the fee regulation disagree, the call says the regulation prevails. The first winner of the MedTech ranking among Italian, EU and equivalent candidates, with an ISEE for the right to study of €28,000 or less, receives a 50% exemption from the fee for all six years, kept with set credits and a 27/30 average; students eligible for a DiscoLazio regional scholarship can apply for a total exemption, within the funds available.

Rankings

Campus Bio-Medico in the rankings

Times Higher Education places Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome in the 451–500 band of its World University Rankings 2027. In THE's 2026 subject tables it is in the 301–400 band for Medical and Health and 801–1000 for Engineering. Only rankings read on their publisher's own site are shown.

Who it suits

Who MedTech suits

MedTech suits a candidate who wants to become a doctor and expects to work with technology, data or research: the first years are heavier in mathematics, physics and computing than Medicine and Surgery's, and there is a route to a Biomedical Engineering degree for those who want it. Since the test is the same, registering for both degrees costs only a second fee and gives you two rankings.
