Overview
What is the UER Admission Test?
Università Europea di Roma runs its own institutional admission test for its Italian-taught Medicine and Surgery degree (LM-41), set under its own Rector's Decree, most recently D.R. 44/26 for the first round of the 2026/2027 cycle, rather than the national admission route of public universities.
The test is delivered in Italian, with one distinctive exception: the English Reading Comprehension section (five questions answered from a short accompanying passage) is the only part of the paper actually tested in English. It is sat from home, remotely proctored with a second device rather than in an exam hall, and every question carries five answer options (A-E) with a fixed penalty for a wrong one, so blind guessing is mathematically break-even rather than a free bet. A mandatory but non-selective soft-skills questionnaire of about 30 minutes follows the scored paper and does not affect your ranking.
There is no confirmed minimum eligible score. Article 8 of the governing decree (the article that would state a pass mark) was read directly and gives only the point formula and a rule for ranking candidates down to the places available, nothing more. Places are allocated purely by that ranking, with ties broken first on logical and mathematical reasoning, then English comprehension, then biology, chemistry and physics in that order, and finally by age.

Structure
UER Admission Test format
The scored test is 60 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes. Five further reserve questions (one per thematic area) are then answered immediately after the scored paper; UER's decree gives them a time proportional to the full test, run by the exam platform, without stating the minutes, and they are normally left unscored, brought into play only if a scored item is later disqualified or replaced. The 60 minutes are not split into separately timed sections: you manage the full paper across all five subjects yourself. A mandatory, non-selective soft-skills questionnaire of about 30 minutes follows and does not affect your ranking.
| Section | Questions | Weighting | Suggested time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Logical Reasoning | 19 | 32% (19 of 60) | *see the note below the table |
| English Reading Comprehension | 5 | 8% (5 of 60) | *see the note below the table |

Content
Question and subject breakdown
UER's own decree groups content into five subjects. There is no separate Mathematics subject: algebra, geometry, functions and probability are all examined inside Logical Reasoning, which is why that single block is nearly a third of the paper on its own.
Logical Reasoning
32%The exam's largest single block and its first tie-break area: formal and verbal logic, numerical reasoning, algebra and equations, geometry and spatial reasoning, functions and data interpretation, and probability.
English Reading Comprehension
8%The only part of the paper actually tested in English: five questions answered from a short accompanying passage of roughly 250-400 words, covering main idea, detail, inference, vocabulary and tone.
Biology
20%OFA-sensitive: an additional learning obligation may be assigned if you score below 50% correct here specifically, regardless of your overall result.
Chemistry
20%OFA-sensitive on the same 50% rule, and the most calculation-heavy of the three sciences: mole, concentration and dilution work has to be done without a calculator.
Physics
20%OFA-sensitive on the same 50% rule, and unusually broad for an Italian medicine admission test: it extends to optics and waves alongside mechanics, fluids, thermodynamics and electromagnetism.
Marks
UER Admission Test scoring
UER's scoring is published explicitly in its decree, and it matters more here than on a four-option test with no penalty: with five options and a fixed penalty for a wrong answer, blind guessing is exactly break-even, not a way to pick up free marks.
- Correct answer
- +1 point
- Incorrect answer
- −0.25 points
- Unanswered question
- 0 points
- Minimum eligible score
- None confirmed: Article 8 was read directly and gives only the point formula and a ranking-to-places-available rule, with no separate pass mark
- Tie-break order
- Logical reasoning → English comprehension → biology → chemistry → physics → younger candidate
- OFA (extra learning requirement)
- Triggered separately for Biology, Chemistry or Physics if you score below 6 of that subject's 12 questions (50%)

UER's decree names macro-areas rather than a topic-by-topic list; the subtopics below follow MUR D.M. 1107 Allegato 1, the same national reference framework UER's own unofficial syllabus guide builds on.
Algebra, geometry, functions and probability all sit here: UER examines no separate Mathematics subject.
- Formal logic: statements, truth and falsity, negation, equivalent statements, quantifiers, connectors, necessary vs. sufficient conditions, syllogisms, Venn diagrams, inclusion and exclusion
- Verbal reasoning: identifying conclusions and premises, finding assumptions, strengthening and weakening arguments, spotting contradictions, valid deduction vs. unsupported claims, analogies, classification, odd-one-out, verbal sequences
- Numerical reasoning: operations with integers, fractions, decimals and percentages, ratios and proportions, powers, roots, scientific notation, estimation, number series and patterns, divisibility, GCD and LCM, speed/work/mixture/average problems
- Algebra and equations: algebraic expressions, first- and second-degree equations and inequalities, systems of equations and inequalities, interpreting solution sets and constraints in word problems
- Geometry and spatial reasoning: lines, angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, coordinate geometry, Pythagoras, similar triangles, perimeter, area and volume, trigonometric ratios in right triangles, rotations, reflections, translations, symmetry, solid figures
- Functions, graphs and data: reading line graphs, bar charts, pie charts, histograms and tables, functions and inverse functions, standard graph families at basic level, frequency, mean, median and mode
- Probability and combinatorics: counting finite sets, tree diagrams and simple arrangements, union of disjoint events, intersection of independent events, conditional probability in simple cases, coin, dice and urn problems
Every item is answered from a short accompanying passage, the only section of the paper tested in English.
- Main idea and purpose: the central idea of a passage, the author's purpose, choosing the best title or summary, distinguishing the main claim from supporting material
- Detail and scanning: specific-detail questions, locating the sentence that proves an answer, rejecting options that restate the wrong part of the text
- Inference and implication: what follows from the text rather than from prior knowledge, supported inference vs. answers that are true in general but not stated or implied, hypotheses the author would accept
- Vocabulary and reference: vocabulary in context, paraphrase recognition, academic verbs such as suggest, imply, claim, assess, undermine and establish, reference words such as this, that, such, them, former and latter
- Structure and tone: the author's tone, logical connectors such as however, therefore, although, whereas and moreover, cause and effect, comparison and contrast, problem and solution, distinguishing facts, hypotheses, opinions and examples
OFA-sensitive: additional learning obligations may be assigned if correct answers here fall below 50% of its 12 questions.
- Chemistry of living organisms: water polarity and hydrogen bonds, mono-, di- and polysaccharides, lipids, amino acids and protein structure, enzymes, nucleotides, DNA and RNA, ATP
- Cell organisation: prokaryotic vs. eukaryotic cells, animal vs. plant cells, membrane structure and transport, the major organelles, endosymbiotic theory at conceptual level
- Genetics and molecular biology: chromosomes, genes and the genetic code, DNA replication, transcription and translation, dominant and recessive alleles, monohybrid crosses, autosomal and X-linked inheritance, mutations and hereditary disease
- Cell division and reproduction: the cell cycle, mitosis, meiosis and cytokinesis, gametogenesis, fertilisation, early embryonic development
- Anatomy and physiology: the hierarchy of cells, tissues, organs and systems, the major body systems, homeostasis and regulatory feedback at basic level

- Biodiversity, evolution and ecology: Bacteria, Archaea and Eukarya, viruses at basic level, natural selection and adaptation, speciation, populations, communities and ecosystems, food chains and species interactions
OFA-sensitive on the same 50%-of-12 rule. The most calculation-heavy of the three sciences.
- Macroscopic properties of matter: states of matter, the kinetic model and phase changes, mixtures and separation techniques, the laws of Lavoisier, Proust, Dalton and Gay-Lussac, the ideal gas laws
- Microscopic properties and composition: the atomic model, elements, compounds, molecules, ions and chemical formulas, periodic properties, quantum numbers and electron configuration
- Chemical bonding and intermolecular forces: ionic, covalent and metallic bonds, electronegativity and bond polarity, Lewis structures, VSEPR and molecular geometry, oxidation number, hydrogen bonding
- Stoichiometry: balancing equations, the mole and the Avogadro constant, mass-to-mole and mole-to-mass conversion, mole ratios, limiting-reagent logic
- Chemical reactions and equilibrium: exothermic and endothermic reactions, equilibrium at conceptual level, reaction rate and the factors affecting it
- Compounds and nomenclature: IUPAC and traditional nomenclature basics, oxides, hydroxides, acids, salts and the main inorganic compound families

- Organic and applied chemistry: alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, benzene and aromatics, carbon hybridisation and isomerism, functional groups, everyday chemical transformations and safety
OFA-sensitive on the same rule. Extends further into optics and waves than most Italian medicine admission tests.
- Quantities, units and vectors: fundamental and derived quantities, SI units and scientific notation, scalar vs. vector quantities, vector addition and products at basic level
- Kinematics: displacement and distance, average and instantaneous velocity, acceleration, uniformly accelerated motion, uniform circular motion, harmonic motion
- Dynamics, work and energy: forces as vectors, Newton's three laws, momentum and its conservation, torque and angular momentum at conceptual level, work, kinetic and potential energy, conservation of mechanical energy, power
- Fluid mechanics: density, hydrostatic pressure, the principles of Pascal, Stevino and Archimedes, the continuity equation and Bernoulli's equation, viscous forces at conceptual level
- Thermodynamics: thermal equilibrium, temperature, heat and calorimetry, specific heat, phase changes and latent heat, the ideal gas laws, the first and second laws of thermodynamics at basic level
- Electricity and magnetism: Coulomb's law, electric field and potential, capacitance, voltage, current, resistance and Ohm's law, the Joule effect, magnetic fields and forces on currents

How difficult is the UER Admission Test?
The UER test is not hard because any one subject is advanced: it targets a final-year secondary-school level throughout. It is hard because of how the five subjects are balanced and how the format is built.
The three sciences combined outweigh reasoning
Biology, Chemistry and Physics together are 36 of 60 questions (60%): more than Logical Reasoning and English Reading Comprehension combined (40%). Candidates who over-invest in reasoning drills, expecting it to dominate the way it does at some sister schools, are optimising for the smaller half of the paper.
Negative marking removes the guessing shortcut
With five options and a −0.25 penalty for a wrong answer, the expected value of a pure guess is exactly zero. Eliminating even one implausible option before guessing is what actually shifts the odds in your favour: random guessing on its own does nothing.
It's sat at home, not in a hall
Remote proctoring with a required second device removes travel, but it adds a different kind of pressure: your own equipment, connection and workspace have to hold up for the full session.
The OFA threshold applies per science, not overall
Because Biology, Chemistry and Physics are each marked as OFA-eligible individually, it is possible to be comfortably ranked on total score and still be assigned an additional learning requirement in one specific science if you happened to be weak in it. Balanced preparation across all three matters even once you feel 'ready' overall.
No pass mark, only a position
Article 8 of the governing decree gives only the scoring formula and a ranking rule, with no separate minimum. The only question that matters is where your total lands relative to everyone else who applied that round, which is why tracking your own trajectory on full mocks tells you more than any single number.
Benchmarks
What is a good UER Admission Test score?
UER publishes no acceptance rate and no official cutoff, but it publishes each round's ranking (graduatoria) on uer.it, with every candidate's score by anonymous code. The current admissions page links the September 2026 list; the March list and its scorrimenti are still online at their own addresses (sources below). Any other number quoted for 'what score gets you in' is an estimate, not a university figure.
Because admission is by ranking against that round's applicant pool, the score that would have been competitive in one round is not a reliable target for the next: it depends on how many candidates apply and how they perform, not on a fixed bar UER sets in advance.
The more useful signal during preparation is your own score on full, timed mock exams built to the real 60-question, five-option, negative-marking format, tracked over time and broken down by subject rather than reduced to one number.
What the 2026/27 rankings show: 284 candidates were ranked in March 2026 for 120 places, and the 120th scored 45.00 of 60. As places were declined, the list moved down until the eighth scorrimento reached its last row, the 284th at -2.50, with 104 places filled. The September round (D.R. 276/26) then admitted all 27 of its candidates, the lowest at 15.25. Every candidate on both lists was at least idoneo: no score shut anyone out.

How to prepare for the UER Admission Test
Build all five subjects from day one: the sciences are 60% of this paper
Coverage across all five subjects, with the sciences weighted correctly from the start.
- Sit a full diagnostic in week one, scored under the real +1/−0.25/0 rule, so the plan reflects the actual format rather than how each subject feels.
- Keep Biology, Chemistry and Physics live every week from the beginning: together they're 60% of the paper here, more than at some sister schools, so they can't be left for 'later'.
- Treat Logical Reasoning as a serious single subject in its own right: at 19 of 60 questions it's still the largest individual block.
- Don't skip the small English Reading Comprehension section: five questions is still worth as many points as clearing half of one science subject's OFA threshold.
- Book a full 60-minute mock, remotely proctored where possible, every two weeks from week six onward.
Weight preparation toward the sciences, not away from them
Match your study time to this paper's actual balance: 60% science, 40% reasoning and English.
- Diagnostic first, then split remaining time roughly 60% across Biology, Chemistry and Physics and 40% across Logical Reasoning and English: the reverse of what candidates preparing for a reasoning-heavy sister school might expect.
- Keep all three sciences alive weekly rather than mastering one and neglecting another: the OFA threshold applies per subject, not to your overall average.
- One full timed mock a week from week two, reviewed the same day against the real scoring rule.
- Log every wrong or blank answer by cause (content gap, misread question, or ran out of time), so review time goes where it actually helps.
Full-length, negative-marking practice becomes the core activity
Volume of timed 60-question sittings under the real penalty.
- Two full mocks a week at the 60-minute limit, scored with the −0.25 penalty applied exactly as it would be on the day.
- Review every mock for pattern, not just score: are wrong answers clustered in one science, or spread evenly, which points to a different fix.
- Drill the elimination habit specifically: for any question you're unsure of, practise ruling out at least one option before deciding whether to answer.
- Rehearse the logistics of remote proctoring (device, second device, workspace) well before the real session.
Protect what you already have
Triage, technique and stamina for a single 60-minute sitting.
- Stop adding new content; consolidate the highest-frequency gaps only.
- Practise a simple in-exam rule: answer if you can eliminate at least one option, skip and flag otherwise, and return to flagged items only if time remains.
- Sit at least two full, scored mocks in the final ten days, then taper.
- Remember there's no minimum score to clear: a stronger relative position is what matters, not a fixed target.

Free UER Admission Test practice questions
Three questions in the format the exam uses. Choose an answer to see the explanation — nothing is recorded.
"Antibiotic resistance does not arise because bacteria 'learn' to resist a drug. Rather, within any large bacterial population, a small number of cells already carry genetic variations that happen to reduce a drug's effectiveness against them. When the antibiotic is applied, susceptible cells die, but the resistant few survive and reproduce, passing the resistance on. Over repeated exposures, resistant strains come to dominate the population." Which statement is best supported by the passage?
In pea plants, purple flower colour (P) is dominant over white (p). A heterozygous purple-flowered plant (Pp) is crossed with a white-flowered plant (pp). What proportion of the offspring is expected to have purple flowers?

FAQ
UER Admission Test frequently asked questions
It's the admission test Università Europea di Roma uses to select candidates for its Italian-taught Medicine and Surgery programme: 60 scored multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, sat remotely from home under proctoring.
No. The IMAT is the national test used by Italian public universities and some private ones; UER sets and administers its own test under its own Rector's Decree, with a different structure, option count and scoring.
Online, from home, remotely proctored: you'll need a working device plus a second device for proctoring, a camera and a stable connection.
+1 point for a correct answer, −0.25 for an incorrect one, and 0 for a blank, across 60 questions with five answer options each. There is no confirmed minimum eligible score: Article 8 of the governing decree gives only the point formula and a ranking-to-places-available rule.
OFA (Obbligo Formativo Aggiuntivo, an additional learning requirement) is triggered separately for Biology, Chemistry or Physics if you score below 50% correct in that specific subject, even if your overall result is strong. Balanced preparation across all three sciences, not just your best one, is what avoids it.
No. UER's Medicine and Surgery programme is taught in Italian, and the admission test is mostly in Italian too. The one exception is the English Reading Comprehension section, which is the only part of the paper actually tested in English.
UER opened a first round under D.R. 44/26 and a second under D.R. 226/26 (amended twice), with final results published via D.R. 276/26 on 14 September 2026. The second round, on 10 September 2026, was for the first year's 46 remaining places. Its call (D.R. 226/26, Art. 3) admitted any Italian or EU citizen, or non-EU citizen legally resident in Italy, with a qualifying school diploma, and excluded no one for having sat the first round; in 2026/27 every first-round candidate had already been offered a place.
For 2026/27 the first call (D.R. 44/26) offered 120 places and 284 candidates were ranked. 104 places were filled; D.M. 1004/2026 then set 150 places for the year, so the second round offered 46 and admitted all 27 of its candidates. UER publishes no acceptance rate. In 2025/26 the call offered 100 places, and a second call (D.R. 269/25) 18 more.
Within the EU, yes: automatically, as a standard Italian medical degree (LM-41). Outside the EU recognition isn't automatic as a rule. For the UK, the Medical Act 1983 (sections 21B and 21C, as in force on 12 October 2026) spares holders of an Italian medical degree the knowledge test other international graduates take through PLAB/UKMLA, but the UK's list pairs the laurea with the Diploma di abilitazione all'esercizio della medicina e chirurgia, which Italy stopped issuing in March 2020, when the practical training moved inside the degree. The GMC's Italy page therefore offers graduates since then provisional registration on the laurea, for a UK Foundation Year 1 post, and asks for evidence of supervised practice, such as a 12-month internship, for full registration. Evidence of English is still required, and the rule is UK policy that can change. US-bound graduates need ECFMG certification via USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK, the same requirement every international medical graduate faces.
Yes. The IvyTest simulator runs UER-format practice (60 questions, five options, the real scoring rule) in timed, tutor and review modes, with a free diagnostic available without payment.
No. UER's admissions pages publish no past papers, no sample test and no official simulation. The convocation notice for the 10 September 2026 test says the email sent to candidates links a video tutorial and a demo version of the exam application, to get used to the platform. After the test, the online Review lets each candidate see their own questions, how their answers were marked and their score (D.R. 44/26, Art. 10).
Not announced yet: on 11 October 2026 UER's Medicine admissions page still listed the 2026/27 calls and no 2027/28 call. So far the call has come out weeks before the test: D.R. 44/26 was signed on 5 February 2026 for a test on 6 March 2026, and the 2025/26 call opened registration on 13 January 2025 for a test on 20 February 2025. Both cycles then ran a second round in September for the places left.
The graduatoria lists every candidate by anonymous code, with the total and section scores, the OFA flags and the outcome: admitted, admitted with reservation or idoneo. In March 2026, 284 candidates were ranked for 120 places; the 120th scored 45.00 of 60 and positions 121 to 141 were admitted with reservation. Places that were not taken passed down the list until the eighth scorrimento reached the 284th, at -2.50. The September 2026 list admitted all 27 candidates, from 58.75 to 15.25.
For 2026/27, €18,250 a year: €4,250 when you accept your place, then four instalments of €3,500 (D.R. 44/26, Art. 17). On top come €16 of stamp duty and the DiscoLazio regional tax, €140 in the second-round call (D.R. 226/26). Sitting the test costs €200, non-refundable. The 2027/28 fees are not published yet.
Under D.R. 44/26 (Art. 3): Italian and EU citizens wherever they live, and non-EU citizens legally resident in Italy, with an Italian upper-secondary diploma or a foreign school-leaving qualification after at least 12 years of schooling (10 or 11 with the extra certificates MUR requires). Students in their final school year can sit it with reservation. Anyone who already holds a degree in Medicine (LM-41) cannot.
UER's address, on its pages and calls, is Via degli Aldobrandeschi 190, 00163 Rome. The Medicine course page lists clinical training in GVM Care & Research hospitals from the first year and CESMAT, UER's advanced medical simulation centre; the 2025/26 call announcement names Ospedale San Carlo di Nancy in Rome, a GVM hospital, as the clinical training centre.
Six years and 360 CFU. In the 2026/27 study plan the first year (56 CFU) has Medical Physics, Biology, and Chemistry and Introductory Biochemistry (6 CFU each), Human and Clinical Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Scientific English and training placements from year one; the final thesis is worth 12 CFU. Lessons last 45 minutes, and some exams have prerequisites: Human Physiology needs Biology and Genetics first.
Only through the admission test, on what UER publishes: IvyTest found no call for transfers into later years. The 2026/27 call says students from other degree courses sit the same test; once admitted, those enrolled elsewhere can transfer with UER's clearance, withdraw, or ask for dual enrolment. UER's notice titled 'places available with transfer' was a 2025/26 second call (D.R. 269/25) for 18 first-year places. Credits from another university can be recognised (course regulations, Art. 28).
UER publishes no survey of its Medicine students: the course took its first students in 2024/25 and has no graduates yet. Its published figures are university-wide: from the AlmaLaurea 2026 report it cites 93.4% satisfied with their university experience, 91% rating relations with teachers very positively and 97% employed five years after a master's degree. The Medicine page quotes one student on hands-on experience from the first year.
No. UER's free admission test, next held on 15 October 2026, is for Economics, Psychology, Tourism and Law: 40 questions in 40 minutes, after a 10-minute questionnaire. Its orientation tests and interviews (UER Orienta), run by orientation psychologists, help you choose a course. Primary Education (Scienze della Formazione Primaria) has its own call. Medicine has its own paid test under its own Rector's Decree, the one on this page.
