Student life
Living in Rome as a medical student
UER's campus is on Via degli Aldobrandeschi, in the Aurelia district of western Rome, outside the historic centre. Clinical training runs through Ospedale San Carlo di Nancy, part of the GVM Care & Research hospital group — UER's main teaching hospital, distinct from Campus Bio-Medico's own separate hospital.
Housing is available at 'Residenza UER,' immediately adjacent to campus (95 rooms, private bathrooms, gym and communal spaces); beyond that, general Rome rental costs are the best guide, since neighbourhood-specific figures for the Aldobrandeschi area aren't published. UER's own numbers — total student population, international-student share — aren't independently confirmed beyond a rough 'over 3,300 students university-wide' figure, so treat any specific statistic here with some caution.
FAQ
UER admissions FAQ
No. UER's Medicine and Surgery programme is taught in Italian. The admission test is mostly in Italian too; only its English Reading Comprehension section is tested in English. This guide and its simulator questions are written in Italian too, so you prepare in the language of the test; confirm the current language requirement directly with UER before applying.
Online, from home, under remote proctoring, with a second device required. It's 60 five-option questions in 60 minutes: Logical Reasoning 19, English Reading Comprehension 5, Biology 12, Chemistry 12 and Physics 12. A correct answer scores +1, a wrong one −0.25 and a blank 0, and no minimum pass mark is confirmed: places go by ranking.
It's built on UER's most recent call, for the 2026/27 cycle (D.R. 44/26), which has now closed. The 2027/28 call hadn't been published as of this guide's last update, so check it for any changes once it's out.
Yes. UER-format practice sessions are available inside the simulator.
€18,250 for 2026/27, set in UER's call (D.R. 44/26, Art. 17): €4,250 when you accept a place, then four instalments of €3,500, plus €16 stamp duty and the DiscoLazio regional tax (€140 in the second-round call, D.R. 226/26). Sitting the test costs €200. The 2027/28 call isn't out yet, so check the figures in it.
As a standard Italian medical degree (LM-41), it's designed to qualify for the same automatic EU/EEA recognition as any other accredited Italian programme. The old separate Esame di Stato licensing exam no longer exists nationally; a practical assessment built into the final year now confers the right to register and practice instead. For the UK, the Medical Act 1983 (sections 21B and 21C, as in force on 12 October 2026) spares holders of an Italian medical degree the knowledge test other international graduates take through PLAB/UKMLA, but the UK's list pairs the laurea with the Diploma di abilitazione all'esercizio della medicina e chirurgia, which Italy stopped issuing in March 2020, when the practical training moved inside the degree. The GMC's Italy page therefore offers graduates since then provisional registration on the laurea, for a UK Foundation Year 1 post, and asks for evidence of supervised practice, such as a 12-month internship, for full registration. US recognition goes through the standard international-graduate route (ECFMG/USMLE).
