- Exam date (2026/2027 cycle)
- Not yet published2027/2028 not yet published; the 2026/2027 cycle had two examination dates, 10 September and 16 September 2026, with results on 14 and 21 September 2026. The 8-9 September 2026 dates quoted elsewhere were the Faculty's preparatory course, not the exam
- Second attempt
- Not yet published2027/2028 not yet published; in 2026/2027 the two examination dates were six days apart (10 and 16 September 2026), and a candidate could sit either or both
- Application deadline
- Not yet published2027/2028 not yet published; the 2026/2027 deadline was 4 September 2026, the last day of the application window. Documents are submitted in person, or through a representative with a notarised power of attorney, at the university's central building
- Enrolment deadline
- Not yet published2027/2028 not yet published; in 2026/2027 the ranking was published on 23 September 2026, enrolment ran 24 to 28 September 2026 and the academic year started on 1 October 2026
How it's scored
- Component weighting
- 50% Biology, 50% Chemistry (stated on the university's own programme page)
- Pass-both rule
- Only applicants who have passed both components are eligible for ranking: a failed component ends the candidacy regardless of how strong the other one is
- Per-component pass threshold
- Not yet publishedNot published. The rule is structural rather than numeric: no supplied source states the mark that constitutes a pass in a component
- Attempts allowed
- One or two within the admission window, with the higher result used for ranking
- Answer options
- 4 (A-D), exactly one correct, confirmed across the university's own past-exam specimens
- Correct answer
- Not yet publishedNot published; IvyTest works from +1 mark per correct answer as a neutral assumption
- Incorrect answer
- Not yet publishedNot published: the past-exam specimens show no sign of negative marking, but no penalty rule appears in any official document; IvyTest works from 0, i.e. no penalty
- Random-guess expected value
- +0.25 marks per item: (1/4 × 1) + (3/4 × 0), but only if there is genuinely no penalty, which the university has never confirmed
- Number of questions
- Not yet publishedNot published as a rule for either component; the official specimens carry 25 multiple-choice items each, and the 40 each that circulates appears in no official source
- Minimum eligible score
- Not yet publishedNot published for the English-taught track. The 36-maximum and 24-minimum figures on uni-sofia.bg belong to the domestic Bulgarian-citizen route, which ranks on state matriculation grades
- Per-subject remedial floors
- None: Bulgaria has no counterpart to the Italian additional-learning-requirement (OFA) system. The nearest equivalent here is the pass-both rule itself

Questions
Before you buy
Yes. Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski delivers Medicine in English and runs its admission process in the same language.
It depends on the school and the cycle. Several universities (Varna, Zlatarov, and Pleven in recent cycles) run the exam fully online and remotely proctored; Sofia University's programme page does not say where its exam is sat. Check the current cycle's format for your target school; this guide notes it where published.
At some schools, yes. Medical University of Sofia's combined exam includes an English component, and Medical University of Varna runs a separate language-competency test alongside its two science papers. Medical University of Plovdiv and Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov University set an English diagnostic test only for candidates who don't already hold an accepted English certificate. Not every Bulgarian school tests English at all.
No separate national board exam. Bulgaria's state exam is built into the final year of the six-year degree itself, followed by free, indefinite registration in the National Register of the Bulgarian Medical Association (BLS).
Yes, it's the 2027 edition, built from the latest admission rules Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski has published. Where a 2027 date or detail isn't published yet, confirm it with the university before you rely on it.
