How it's scored
- Competition-score formula (Art. 156)
- English mark + (3 × Biology mark) + (3 × Chemistry mark)
- Maximum competition score
- 42.00
- Grade scale
- Bulgarian 2.00 to 6.00 per component, which is what makes the maximum 42.00 (6.00 + 18.00 + 18.00) and puts the lowest arithmetically possible score at 14.00, not 0
- Component pass rule
- Officially confirmed: English, Biology and Chemistry must each be passed, and failing a single component fails the whole exam regardless of the total
- Minimum eligible score
- Not yet publishedNot published. Art. 156 states a maximum of 42.00 and no minimum anywhere in the regulation's 230 articles; Art. 59 separately defines a university-wide "positive grade" as not lower than 3 on the 2-6 scale, which is the closest the Regulations come to defining Art. 154's "successfully passed" but is a general grading rule rather than a stated entrance-exam floor.
- Per-question marking
- Not yet publishedNot published. One mark per correct answer with no penalty is IvyTest's neutral working assumption: MU-Sofia states no penalty anywhere, and assuming one would change what a candidate should do on every uncertain question.
- Answer options per question
- Not yet publishedNot published. Four is IvyTest's regional working default, but it is weaker than it looks: MU-Plovdiv's own official documents confirm a genuine 3-option exception on one block of its paper, so "most Bulgarian schools use four" is a prior, not a proof.
- Raw-score-to-grade conversion
- Not yet publishedNot published. There is no way to convert "16 of 20 correct in Biology" into a component mark on the 2.00-6.00 scale from any accessible MU-Sofia source.
- Reserve questions
- Not yet publishedNo source mentions reserve or replacement items, so this is recorded as unknown rather than as none.

Questions
Before you buy
Yes. Medical University of Sofia delivers Medicine in English and runs its admission process in the same language.
It depends on the school and the cycle. Several universities (Varna, Zlatarov, and Pleven in recent cycles) run the exam fully online and remotely proctored; Sofia University's programme page does not say where its exam is sat. Check the current cycle's format for your target school; this guide notes it where published.
At some schools, yes. Medical University of Sofia's combined exam includes an English component, and Medical University of Varna runs a separate language-competency test alongside its two science papers. Medical University of Plovdiv and Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov University set an English diagnostic test only for candidates who don't already hold an accepted English certificate. Not every Bulgarian school tests English at all.
No separate national board exam. Bulgaria's state exam is built into the final year of the six-year degree itself. Afterwards, registering in the National Register of the Bulgarian Medical Association (BLS) is free and, once granted, indefinite. EU/EEA/Swiss nationals need a professional-qualification-recognition certificate from Bulgaria's Ministry of Health as part of that registration.
Yes, it's the 2027 edition, built from the latest admission rules Medical University of Sofia has published. Where a 2027 date or detail isn't published yet, confirm it with the university before you rely on it.
